ARC Review: The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee

I’m going to start off by saying that I’ve never read or watched Gossip Girl.  Shocking, I know.  Why do I mention this?  The Thousandth Floor has been heavily promoted as 'Gossip Girl in the 22nd century'.  I can go in for some fun drama if it’s well done, so I decided to pick this up.  I have a lot of mixed feelings about The Thousandth Floor, as you can probably see from my rating, but I do think that this all comes down to taste.

ARC Review: The Diabolic

There are times when a book comes into your life that you think you won't like, but you somehow end up loving.  That book for me was The Diabolic.  It has so many elements that I usually dislike: an overpowered heroine, a cocky-on-the-outside-but-soft-and-squishy-on-the-inside hero, the ‘this could all be resolved if we actually sat down and talked about our feelings’ romantic subplot.  However, everything came together really well and just works.

ARC Review: Daughter of the Burning City

Daughter of the Burning City is the much-hyped debut novel from Amanda Foody.  I was approved to read this book a few months back but was holding off for some reason.  Good reviews kept pouring in and when I saw early copies on sale at YALC, I had to have a physical copy.  I'm so pleased to say that I was surprised by Daughter of the Burning City in the best way possible!

Review: A Gathering of Shadows

After a mediocre, but promising start to the series with A Darker Shade of Magic), I was nervous about being disappointed by the second book in this wildly popular series.  For me, A Darker Shade of Magic was problematic in a number of areas, but particularly the characters.  Their lack of development and personality, coupled intense disappointment over Delilah Bard's character, I felt really let down by this incredibly popular series.  If you're curious, you can read my review of the first book here.
