I’ve been curious about Victoria Schwab’s new middle grade tale because it's such a departure from her adult fantasy novels. As you all may know, I’m not a huge fan of her adult books but really like her as a person. City of Ghosts sounded promising because it contains so many things I love -- ghosts, Edinburgh, and cats. I dove in a little skeptical, but ended up really enjoying this little tale.

Instagram Sundays
The weekend is nearly finished, and I am in denial. Where did the time go? I can't believe it's almost Monday! While I hide under a blanket, here's a round up of this week's Instagram posts.
Review: A Gathering of Shadows
After a mediocre, but promising start to the series with A Darker Shade of Magic), I was nervous about being disappointed by the second book in this wildly popular series. For me, A Darker Shade of Magic was problematic in a number of areas, but particularly the characters. Their lack of development and personality, coupled intense disappointment over Delilah Bard's character, I felt really let down by this incredibly popular series. If you're curious, you can read my review of the first book here.
Weekly Wrap-Up #14
Happy Friday! I’m sadly back from holiday and have readjusted to real life. I did manage to read two books this week, but also bought a whole bunch more. What TBR challenge?
Top Ten Tuesday: Series I Need to Finish
The fantasy genre is notorious for its long series and hefty books. As a long-time fantasy reader, there are so many series that I just haven’t managed to finish. I decided to highlight a few of these unfinished series, along with some non-fantasy series, for Top Ten Tuesday, as The Broke and the Bookish is on hiatus. I’m only listing series I’d like to finish rather than ones I decided to quit (looking at you, Dresden Files).
Weekly Wrap-Up #13
Happy Friday! I'm currently in Edinburgh, my home away from home, and am absolutely loving it. Holidays are always the best time for reading, so let's get to it!
Top Ten Tuesday: Villainous Villains
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, but they're on hiatus so I came up with my own! I absolutely love a great villain. I often prefer them over heroes because they tend to be more complex and quite frankly, more fun. I’d do a top ten, however I … Continue reading Top Ten Tuesday: Villainous Villains
Weekly Wrap-Up #12
It’s Friday, the happiest day of the week! I didn’t do a weekly wrap-up last week because the last day of the month fell on a Friday – you can read my June round-up here. It has been a tough week for reading and blogging because of general life things (again, all good stuff), but I did manage to read one book this week.

It's time for Instagram Sundays -- a roundup of this week's bookstagam posts. This week's post is brought to you by my birthday and a weekend in London. This is an advance copy I was sent for review. I'm really enjoying it (and its simple but effective cover)! It's an adventure filled with wrongful imprisonment, … Continue reading Instagram Sundays
