Happy Friday, all! I can’t believe how quickly August is progressing. This week’s wrap-up will cover a few more days than usual because I’m currently participating in the N.E.W.T.s readathon! I want to make sure I’m covering all of my subjects and keeping myself accountable.
Books I read
To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers
Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer
The Starlight Watchmaker by Lauren James
City of Lies by Sam Hawke
I’ve read four books this week, one long one and three very short ones. The clear winners are To Be Taught, If Fortunate and City of Lies! I’ll have reviews going up very soon for most of these, but you can check out my review of the new Becky Chambers book here.
Books I am currently reading
Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow
I may or may not already be totally in love with this book and I’m only 60 pages in. I’m hoping to read much more this weekend! You’ll be able to get your hands on a copy of Ten Thousand Doors of January in September, and I’ll have a review up well before then!
Books I bought
The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold
The Dragon Republic by R. F. Kuang (review)
To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers (review)
I’ve bought three books this week — two of which were preorders. First of all, I picked up a copy of The Five after my friend Amber read it and loved it. I don’t often read non fiction, but this looks like a really great book.
Of course, The Dragon Republic and To Be Taught, If Fortunate are two of my most highly anticipated books of the year. I was lucky enough to have read early copies, so you can check out my linked reviews to see my thoughts!
Book post
A Little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie
Dragonslayer by Duncan M. Hamilton
Deeplight by Frances Hardinge
The Death of Mrs Westaway by Ruth Ware
I’ve received four books in the post from publisher over the past week, and can we just take a minute to admire this bounty? Each of these books looks fantastic, and I cannot wait to read them!
NetGalley approvals
Monstrous Heart by Claire McKenna
The Lost Ones by Anita Frank
Deeplight by Frances Hardinge
NetGalley has really come through for me this week! I’ve been approved for three books that I absolutely cannot wait for! Of course, I requested Deeplight before I received a copy in the post.
These all come out in late 2019 or in 2020, so I have plenty of time to get them done!
THE FIVE. I’m such a good influencer.
I recently got a bunch of Ruth Ware books for this thing I’m doing on Booktube. I would say we could buddy read TDOMW but I’m trying to read it this weekend haha
