Weekly Wrap-Up: 12 April 2019

weekly wrap up new

Happy Friday, all!  This week has been pretty great for me. I finished up my last day at my old job on Monday and have been having a very relaxing week of funemployment until I begin my new role next week. This means that I’ve been doing a ton of reading — check it out!

Books I read

Do You Dream of Terra-Two? by Temi Oh

The Tea Master and the Detective by Aliette de Bodard

The Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston

I read three books this week, which is great given that I didn’t finish a single book last week. I absolutely loved Do You Dream of Terra-Two? — it’s the exact kind of sci-fi book that I love! I also really enjoyed The Tea Master and the Detective, a loose retelling of The Study in Scarlet set in space, and The Princess and the Fangirl, the companion novel to 2017’s Geekerella. Reviews for all of these books are coming soon!

Books I am currently reading

Before Mars by Emma Newman

The Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas

I’m currently reading two books that are quite different. I’m nearly halfway through Before Mars, the third book in the Planetfall series. I absolutely adore Emma Newman’s writing and am so excited to finish this up and get my hand on her newest book, Atlas Alone.

I’m also reading The Devil in Winter, a historical romance that my sister recommended to me on our podcast last season. I’ve only just gotten around to reading it now and I’m really enjoying it! Who doesn’t love a marriage of convenience?

Books I bought

Nothing so far! I staged an intervention with myself at the end of March over how many books I buy. I’m doing my best to cut that number down and stop buying books until YALC. If nothing else, I need to stop buying them in the insane quantities that I have been over the past year or so — I can’t keep up!

That’s it for this week! I’m going to spend my Friday hanging out with the cats, writing up some reviews, and getting ready to start my new job!

How has your week been? Have you read any good books? Did you buy anything new? Let me know!

  1. All I’ve managed to read this week is around 100 or so pages of Runelight by Joanne Harris. I want to read a little more over the weekend but it’s so slow going that I might find myself picking up another book instead.

I too want to keep tabs on my book buying until YALC, however I’ve bought and received 4 books over the last few days – The Beast’s Heart by Leife Shallcross, The Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, Black Leopard Red Wolf by Marlon James, and Our Child of the Stars by Stephen Cox. I also ordered three more books online yesterday, as well as pre-ordering a couple. My only problem is that I have no idea where I’ll put them!
