Happy Friday! I cannot wait for this weekend — I get to see friends, go to a book event in London, and relax a little! The number of books I read in a given week is going to decline here soon because, well, you’ll see why.
Books I read
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
I finally got around to reading Truthwitch by Susan Dennard and I absolutely loved it! It has tight world building, a solid magic system, and a cast of characters with incredible chemistry. I am so mad at myself for letting this book languish on my shelf for over a year, but I’ve already bought the rest of the series. A review is coming up soon!
Books I am currently reading
Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Once and Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cory McCarthy
I’m currently sort of reading two books. Priory is my main priority — I’m not joking when I say I’ve been waiting for this book for so long. When I first heard about its release, I knew I had to have it. So finally, over 18 months later, I’m finally able to read it! This book is a real chonky one, clocking in at over 800 pages, but I’m a 90’s fantasy fan — I’ve never met a long book I didn’t like. I’ll be working on this one for awhile, so these wrap-ups may be a bit dull for awhile.
My other book is Once and Future, which I’m using as my commuting book when I don’t want to break my back carrying Priory on the bus. I’m lukewarm on it so far — it is fun but the dialogue is a bit cheesy and clunky and the pacing is a bit off. I am going to give it a proper chance though!
Books I bought
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
The Familiars by Stacey Hall
The Wytch Elm by Tana French
Orphanage of the Gods by Helen Coggman
The Quiet at the End of the World by Lauren James
I wandered into Waterstones unsupervised and look what happened.
Book post
The Devouring Gray by Christina Lynne Herman
Lord of Secrets by Breanna Teintze
Through the White Wood by Jessica Leake
I’ve received some marvelous book post this week! All three of these books come out in spring/summer of 2019 and they’re all high on my list of anticipated reads. Reviews should be coming soon!*
NetGalley approvals
The Fever King by Victoria Lee
Normally I’d say that a real world meets magic meets dystopian book might not be the right thing for me, but I love the sound of The Fever King! I cannot wait to get started on this one — it sounds so unique.*
That’s it for this week. My sister and I are getting started on season two of our podcast, I’m working on getting loads of reviews out to you guys, and I have some exciting things in the pipeline that I cannot wait to share!
What have you been up to this week? Have you read any great books? Have you picked up anything new? Let me know!
*These books were sent to me for free by the publisher in exchange for an honest review
Ah, the equal joy and pain of reading a long book! Happy that an anxiously awaited release is now in your hands, enjoy!
