The year is almost over — can you believe it? It feels like it should still be September, maybe October. Where has the time gone? At least I get to be super Christmassy without judgement.
Books I read
Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean
The Way Past Winter by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
I read two books this week! I feel like I’m finally getting my reading mojo back after several months of teetering on the edge of a reading slump. Empress of All Seasons was a brilliant Japanese-inspired fantasy that I really liked — you can read my review here. The Way Past Winter is the first of the little stack of books I’ve been saving for the cold weather. I powered through this enchanting tale in about a day and really loved it. Kiran Millwood Hargrave is one of my favourite authors, and I’m so pleased I discovered her books. A review is coming soon!
Books I am currently reading
Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri
The Pale Blue Dot by Carl Sagan
Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden
I’m currently only three books, look at my self control. Empire of Sand is on hold for the moment, as I’m going to do a buddy reading with the marvelous Nandini from Unputdownable Books! I love what I’ve read so far and cannot wait to keep going. The Pale Blue Dot is my audiobook read at the moment, and I’m really enjoying it. I loved the audiobook for Cosmos, so this was an obvious choice. Finally, my main read at the moment is Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden. I’m absolutely loving this book, although I’m sad that the Winternight trilogy is coming to an end. You can read my review of The Bear and the Nightingale and The Girl in the Tower here!
Books I bought
Nothing! This gets easier around Christmas time — you should see my wishlist.
Book post
Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy (film tie-in)
Ekk! I’m so excited to have a copy of Dumplin’ in my hands! This is the film tie-in edition, and I cannot wait to watch the movie. Dumplin’ releases today on Netflix!
NetGalley approvals
The Descendant of the Crane by Jean He
Descent of Shadows by Ryanne Glenn
Both of these books look absolutely amazing! I’m particularly excited to read The Descendant of the Crane, but Descent of Shadows looks amazing too! I’m hoping to do a better job of keeping up with my NetGalley books in 2019, so I should be able to get to these soon.

The Way Past Winter looks like a cosy read! Happy December 🙂
