So my intention for this month was to have essentially no TBR and ‘shop my shelves’ for books I’ve had lying around and may have forgotten about. I decided to pick out a couple of priority titles and go from there. Guess how many ‘priority’ books I picked? 14. So I guess I unintentionally picked my TBR for April. Whoops.
Because there are so many books here, I’ve split them up by genre. I usually average about 7 books a month, so I’d ideally love to read half of these. Or maybe more! Who knows what the future holds?
Fantasy
Guns of Dawn by Adrian Tchaikovsky (my fantasy bookclub pick for April)
Hero at the Fall by Alwyn Hamilton (still need to finish off the trilogy!)
The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie (one of Scottish Fiance’s TBR picks from February)
City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty (a new release)
Science Fiction
Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer (obsessed with the film, want to see how the book stacks up)
Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston (left over from the Spring Cleaning Readathon and my current read!)
Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente (NetGalley)
From Darkest Skies by Sam Peters (left over from the Spring Cleaning Readathon)
Empire of Silence by (a super exciting debut!)
Renegades by Marissa Meyer (approaching with caution after Heartless)
Nonfiction
Africa’s Tarnished Name by Chinua Achebe (short essays from a marvelous author)
Letter from Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King (self-explanatory!)
Historical Fiction
Orphan, Monster, Spy by Matt Killeen (WWII historical fiction thriller)
Graphic Novel
Red Son by Mark Millar (another one of Scottish Fiance’s TBR picks)
I’m hoping to cram in a few more NetGalley books as well. Here’s to hoping I actually remember to eat and sleep this month!
What are you hoping to read in April? Have you read any of these books? Are they in your TBR? Let me know!
So many amazing books! I can not wait to see what you think of Annihilation. It is so completely different than the movie and I enjoyed both of them but I think I liked the book a bit more!
I am curious about Space Opera so I am looking forward to your thoughts on that one as well. Happy reading!

I am SO EXCITED to read Annihilation! I’ve heard they’re very different, but excellent in their own way. I’m obsessed with the movie!
I started reading it this morning on the bus. I honestly thought it was a novella, but it turns out it is a full-length novel. Oops! I don’t have much to say yet — will report back!

Hero at the Fall is on my shelves too! I need to finish the trilogy as Alwyn Hamilton will be at YALC London this summer!

Yeah!! I just got my tickets yesterday. The fact that Becky Chambers is going to be there was too much for me to handle.
