Weekly Wrap-Up: 08 December 2017

Happy Friday!  Only two more weeks until I head home for the Christmas holiday.  While I am filled with holiday cheer (and over excitement), I’ve been happily plowing my way through my December TBR.  I managed to finish three books this week between Christmas parties, lunches, wrapping, and decorating.  I’m kind of impressed with myself.

What I read

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson (audiobook)

The Naked Sun by Isaac Asimov

Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

So this was a great week for reading, and I feel like I need to talk about each book.  I finally managed to finish The Way of Kings as part of my Stormlight Archives reread.  It’s a 42-hour long audiobook!  The last couple of hours I was staring into space, completely hypnotised.  He has such a way with endings, despite it being the first in a long series.  Words of Radiance is on deck, then I can read my physical copy of Oathbringer!

I also read two books off my December TBR. The Naked Sun is actually a book I received for Christmas last year (remember when I made the resolution to read all my Christmas books before the end of 2017?  Ha.)  It is the second of Asimov’s Robot novels and I absolutely loved it.  I read Caves of Steel earlier this year, in fact I think it was the first review I wrote, and really enjoyed it, but The Naked Sun was even better. Baley’s character arc continues and it’s just amazing.

I also read Turtles All the Way Down by John Green, one of the most highly anticipated books of the year. I have a love-hate relationship with Green (I loved The Fault in Our Stars, I hated Looking for Alaska), so I was curious to see what I’d think about this one.  It’s interesting because I didn’t think it was a particularly good book, but his depiction of mental illness is incredible.  I’ll be reviewing it soon!

Books I’m currently reading

Strange Weather by Joe Hill

The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

My main focus right now is Strange Weather, which I am enjoying. It consists of four short horror novels — I’m currently reading the second one.  The stories are incredibly gripping so far!  I’ve never read anything by Joe Hill before, so I am not completely sure what to expect.

I’m flagging a little on The Girl in the Tower, but plan to pick that back up this weekend.  Otherwise, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is incredibly fun so far!  I do love Poirot.

Books I bought

None!  Ha!  Look at my willpower!

Book post!

Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu

I am SO excited to have received Batman: Nightwalker!  I’ve been a huge Batman fan ever since I was little, so the fact that there’s a novel is so exciting.  I’m planning to read Wonder Woman first because series, but it’s really hard to keep my hands off this book.

In other news, I’ve been slowly recovering from a nasty cold and trying to keep up the Christmas spirit!  The UK takes Christmas VERY seriously and there’s so much going on. I’m really looking forward to the holidays so I can relax, read, and hang out with my family!

The most noble of Christmas cats.

That’s it for this week!  What have you been reading?  What’s in your TBR pile?  Let me know!

  1. I JUST started reading my first Sanderson novel (last night) and the prologue alone was blowing my mind. I couldn’t believe anything I was reading. It was so fast-paced and unpredictable and it was ONLY THE PROLOGUE! The book is Steelheart, by the way.
