September is gone, and October is here! I’ve been doing these monthly TBR strategy posts because they really help me organise my thoughts and reading ambitions. October is going to be quite the busy month for reading, so this post is going to be so helpful!
As you guys may have seen in the past, I like to post a photo of my before and after TBR pile that sits next to my bed. This is usually where my priority books sit in order for them to be more visible to me, but I rarely stick to this pile. That is (hopefully) going to change in October! As you can see, I cleared out the whole thing and re-did it. These are all the books that I plan to read this month.

I have made a few commitments to this month that I plan to keep. One is Victober! If you aren’t aware, Victober is a big push to read Victorian literature in the month of October. If you’d like to participate, you can check out my reading recommendations and TBR video here! I’m also planning to publish reviews and content on publication day for a few upcoming titles. Finally, I have some priorities from my own bookshelves!
I have 15 books in my TBR for October and am shooting to read at least eight of those books. Let’s see what happens!
Victober
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
The Turn of the Screw and Other Stories by Henry James
Heart of Midlothian by Walter Scott
These are my three picks for Victober. Jane Eyre is my absolute priority for the event! I have never read it, and it’s high time I gave it a shot. The Turn of the Screw and Other Stories is my next priority. I’ve never read a single thing by him, and he’s one of my mother’s favourite authors! Short stories are the way to go in this case, and I’m really looking forward to this. Finally, Heart of Midlothian is another one I haven’t read, but it’s another long book. This will be my stretch goal if I finish the other two.
Advance copies
The Last Namasara by Kristen Ciccarelli
Artemis by Andy Weir
The Seventh Decimate by Stephen Donaldson
The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden
Otherworld by Jason Segal and Kirsten Miller (digital ARC)
I would really like to get myself up to speed with publishing reviews on publication day. This helps authors, particularly debut authors, so much! The Last Namasara and Otherworld both release in October, so those are priorities for me from this category. Artemis and The Seventh Decimate are out in November, so I have a little more wiggle room, and The Girl in the Tower is out in January 2018 (I just really, really want to read it). Keep an eye out for publication day reviews here and on my YouTube Channel!
Book club
Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
My book club is meeting up mid-month and we’re reading the first book in the Mistborn trilogy! Now, I’ve already read this but it has been years. I wont feel too terrible if I don’t finish this in time because it’s a re-read, but I’m dying to jump back in.
TBR Priorities
Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson
The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo
Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo
A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge
They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
Illuminae by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff
These are all books I bought for myself in the past and need to read. Many of them are new books from September, a few are older titles. Shadows of Self is my current read and I’d really like to have that done and dusted soon. I’ve spent too long neglecting it because it just wasn’t clicking for me in the beginning. Otherwise, I’m particularly looking forward to tackling Wonder Woman, The Language of Thorns, and A Skinful of Shadows!
I did a not-so-little video on my October TBR. You can take a look here!
So that’s it for my October reading goals! What do you plan to read in October? Have you read any of these books? Definitely let me know!
I’m really curious to see what your thoughts will be of Otherworld. It’s interesting but I’m still on the fence. And as you know I can’t wait for Artemis!!!

Have you read it already? I’m feeling kind of uninspired but interested by it, if that makes sense.
Artemis is going to be great!!!

No I haven’t. I’m on the fence whether to pick it up or not. It’s shown up on a couple wish lists around blogs but I haven’t seen any reviews yet. I feel the same way you do. Interested but not….

In that case I will report back with my thoughts when I get to it! I haven’t seen any reviews yet either, which is kind of worrying. I don’t remember getting a message about a review embargo or anything. Oh well!

Oh man Shadows of Self is SO amazing! I can’t wait to see what you think of that installment and Bands of Mourning is also epic as always 🙂 I did get Bear and the Nightingale and can’t wait to read it. Best of luck with your TBR 🙂

I really need to do this this month so I can see what indeed to read and watch the pile shrink by the end of the month!
And where did you get Pusheen from? He’s so adorable!

It must be so satisfying to see it shrink, I hope that mine actually does that this month! I feel a bit overwhelmed by the huge number of books I have 😦
He’s from Amazon! I have an embarrassing number of Pusheens and they’re all available there 😀

You can do it! You’ll finish the whole pile and I’ll still be on my first book 😂
I have four Pusheens so far but I need more! They’re the cutest things??
