Happy Friday, you guys! I’m currently living it up at YALC, but I didn’t want to miss my favorite post of the week. I’ve been trying to get a ton of reading in before attending this convention, however life gets in the way (as usual). I dind’t read as much as I would have liked, but here is a round-up of all the reading I did this week.
Apologies if this post is weirdly formatted or if I don’t reply as fast as usual! I imagine I’m probably going to be absolutely exhausted after every day!
Books I read
Gather the Daughters by Jennie Melamed
Gather the Daughters was a fantastic debut from Jennie Melamed. It is a feminist dystopia in the vein of The Handmaid’s Tale, but manages to be its own unique thing. It is so creepy and unsettling and stays with you long after you set it aside. You can check out my review tomorrow!
Books I am currently reading
Sea of Rust by Robert C. Cargill
A Conjuring of Light by V. E. Schwab
I haven’t had much of a chance to really sink my teeth into Sea of Rust yet because of all my YALC reading and prep, but I’m really enjoying it so far. Fans of Asimov’s Robots novels and stories should absolutely pick this book up when it comes out in September!
I’m coming to the end of V. E. Schwab’ acclaimed Shades of Magic series with the completion of A Conjuring of Light — I have just under 200 pages to go. I had hoped to have it done before her signing on Saturday, but that’s okay! I’m nearly there anyway. It’s a shame that this series is nearly over, I thought these books got stronger and stronger as the trilogy progressed. I’m looking forward to diving into her Monsters of Verity duology soon!
Books I bought
Nothing! At least, nothing so far. The weekend is young, and I plan to pick up a ton of stuff at YALC — I already have a little list going of the proofs I want and the publisher booths I need to visit. I’ll do a round-up post when it’s all over!
That’s it for this week! If you’re at YALC, definitely let me know — I’d love to say hello. If you’re not at YALC, keep an eye on my social media – I’ll be posting loads of updates. Keep an eye on my Twitter and on my Instagram and Instagram stories — you can follow those links or find me at @ishouldreadthat on both.
