Happy Friday! I’m currently in Edinburgh, my home away from home, and am absolutely loving it. Holidays are always the best time for reading, so let’s get to it!
Books I’ve read:
Animal Farm by George Orwell
The Cardinal’s Man by M. G. Sinclair
I had never read Animal Farm, so I grabbed it when I saw it available in the airport. It’s a short book, so I breezed through it in a day and loved it. I think its one of the few times I can say that I wish I has read it for a class in high school or college. Weird, right?
I’ve finished up The Cardinal’s Man in anticipation of my slot in the book’s blog tour! The tour is underway already if you’d like to check it out, but you’ll see my post here on the 19th of July. I wont reveal anything except that I really enjoyed this one. It’s a great historical fiction book set in an interesting time period with a clever protagonist.
Books I’m currently reading
How to Stop Time by Matt Haig
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
I haven’t had a whole lot of time to read this week — I tend to read on my lunch break and just haven’t had the chance — so I’m still at the beginning of How to Stop Time. I am still really loving it though!
I intended to start A Conjuring of Light on holiday, but had a small mixup with my baggage for this trip. EasyJet only allows for one bag per person in the cabin while every other company I’ve flown with allows for a small purse as well. Before I could get on the plane, I had to quickly empty my purse into my suitcase and Scottish Fiance’s bag. Daughter of Smoke and Bone made it into his bag while A Conjuring of Light stayed in my suitcase, so guess which one I had for the plane? That’s one way to choose your next book 🤣
Books I bought
A Conjuring of Light by V. E. Schwab
Animal Farm by George Orwell
Hag-Seed by Margaret Atwood
‘Bought’ is a strong word for A Conjuring of Light — I had a filled Waterstones card and got this book for free! I’m looking forward to finishing the trilogy — I wasn’t too impressed by the first one but the second was a big improvement.
I spotted Animal Farm and Hag-Seed in the airport shop. I absolutely loved The Handmaid’s Tale and have wanted to read Hag-Seed when it came out in paperback. WHSmith here in the UK does exclusive paperbacks in airports for books that are still in hardcover and this was one of them!
I swear I’m still aiming to read all the books in my flat. I swear.

What do you think of Daughter of Smoke and Bone so far? I just finished it last week and loved it! Hope you enjoy your time away!

I was mixed about it! There are parts I really, really loved and parts I was a bit ‘meh’ about. I bought the sequel though, so I’m going to definitely finish the trilogy!

I liked Animal Farm a lot more than I thought I would. It’s a strange read, but a good one.

It took me about 20 pages to get the image of cute fluffy Disney animals out of my head! After that, it really picked up for me.
