Another week is in the books, and it’s time for the weekly wrap up!
Books I read
Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moïra Fowley-Doyle
Lost Boy by Christina Henry
Raven Stratagem (DNF) by Yoon Ha Lee
This was a great week for reading because both books I finished were wonderful. Spellbook of the Lost and Found is a masterfully written piece of magical realism that deals with normal teenage things and the creeping horror of the unknown. Lost Boy is the story of Peter Pan told from the perspective of Captain Hook, who was one of Peter’s lost boys and his best friend. I’ve always thought Peter Pan was a shifty character, and Christina Henry has confirmed this for me.
I ended up DNFing Raven Stratagem this week. You can take a look at my thoughts here, but in a nutshell I just felt like it lost what I loved from the first book. I struggled to read and finish Ninefox Gambit, but still loved it because of certain characters and interactions, which are not part of Raven Stratagem.
Books I’m currently reading
The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
The Fellowship of the Ring by J. R. R. Tolkien
‘Loving’ is the wrong word for The Underground Railroad, but I am really enjoying it as a book. It won all of the awards in 2017, including the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and was one of the books that President Obama read while serving as President. I snatched a copy off NetGalley and am really glad I took the opportunity to read this book. It is brutal and difficult in some parts, but the characters and his writing style are wonderful.
And of course, I’m still slowly working through Fellowship. This will be on the ‘currently reading’ list for awhile.
Books I bought
I finished up my birthday haul this week. I am ashamed. But! I will not be going on book-buying binges for awhile to save for the wedding. So there’s that.
Everything, Everything by Nicole Yoon
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed
Wing Jones by Katherine Webber
Legend by Marie Lu
And I Darken by Kiersten White
A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan
The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
That’s it for this week! Happy Friday and read all the things this weekend.
I’ve always been intrigued by The Natural History of Dragons. I don’t know what it’s really about but the title sounds so cool! Looks like you had a great week! 🙂
