Well, here are two of my interests combined! I’m not a huge Disney person in general, but I grew up on the princesses (I’m pretty sure I wore out my VHS copy of The Little Mermaid). Thank you so much to Nadwa from Painfully Fictional for tagging me!

Snow White
This book (like the movie) started it all
Favorite Debut Book From an Author
I’ve been reading a number of amazing debut novels lately, so this is a tough one to choose! I think The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is probably my recent favorite debut. It is a cozy science fiction novel, something I’ve never encountered before, that investigates us as humans in the context of our relationship with other species in a distant future. I absolutely loved it and it’s one of those books that just brings me so much joy.
Cinderella
A diamond in the rough
Just Like Cinderella, You Either Didn’t Expect Much Out of This Character in the Beginning But Turned Out to Be a Total Jem
The Bone Gap by Laura Ruby is a book I didn’t really expect to love all that much. I got it through my book subscription service and would have never picked it up on my own. Turns out it’s a fantastic read! It’s very unique in a way that contemporary YA just isn’t. It’s like a coming of age story mixed with the weirdest and creepiest magical realism. I really enjoyed it and couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
Aurora
Sleeping beauty
A Book That Makes You Sleepy or Just Could Not Hold Your Attention
The Magicians by Lev Grossman has been described as ‘Harry Potter for adults’. I love Harry Potter and I am indeed an adult, but I just couldn’t get into this one. I don’t think I made it very far before moving onto something else, but I don’t think I’m alone in this. It seems to be one of those books that people either love or hate.
Ariel
Under the sea
A Book With a Water/Ocean Setting
I’m struggling with this one because I don’t really have anything that suits! I’ll go with The Fishing Fleet: Husband-Hunting in the Raj by Anne de Courcy. It’s a nonfiction book about the British women who would take the long and dangerous journey to India in order to find a husband among the British men stationed there. I’ve read two of Anne de Courcy’s books so far and absolutely loved them. She has a knack for combining the glamour of British high society with the darker shadows of war, colonialism, and oppression.
Belle
Beauty and the Beast
Name a Book With the Best Bookworm/Book Lover
If you’re a book lover, you cannot go wrong with The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman. I thought this book was okay (I’m pretty unique in this), but I want to give it another shot because I was incredibly stressed out with my masters when I read it. This is a book lover’s dream – Irene is an agent of the Library, for which she steals works of fiction from different realities. Sounds like the ideal job to me!
Jasmine
The thief and the princess
Name Book with an Unlikely Love Story (Either in Terms of Romance or a Book You Didn’t Expect to Love So Much)
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor has a gorgeous, unlikely romance and is a book that I didn’t expect to love quite as much as I did. I wont say much more, I’ll just curl up in a ball with my feelings.
Pocahontas
The real life princess
Name a Book that is Based on a Real Life Person You Want to Read/Have Read
I’m not usually one for biographies, especially not celebrity biographies, but I do love a good history book. I’ve got The Viceroy’s Daughters in my TBR pile right now, and I can’t wait to dive in. The book chronicles the lives of Lord Curzon’s, the Viceroy of India, three daughters. I’ve mentioned another of Anne de Courcy’s books above – I think she’s just fantastic.
Mulan
The princess that saved her country
Name the Fiercest Heroine You Know
You can’t get more fierce than Nona from Mark Lawrence’s Red Sister. She’s about 11 years old and kicks so much more butt than I ever will. She’s a fantastic character and such a breath of fresh air from the beautiful, strong, fierce, but still soft and human ladies we see a lot these days. Don’t get me wrong, I love these types of women, but Nona is such a far cry from any other strong female character I’ve read in a long time.
Tiana
The princess with the coolest and most diverse crew
Name a diverse book whether it is a diverse set of characters (like Tiana’s group of Naveen, Louis, Ray, and more) or just diverse in general
The gang from Six of Crows is the best and most obvious choice. Not only are you getting characters of different ethnicities and social backgrounds, everyone has a unique back story and life experience that ranges from a cushy, but abusive life with a wealthy family to a life of slavery. Each character is unique and so well fleshed out, it’s hard to pick a favorite (Nina).
Rapunzel
Let your longggg hair down
Name the Longest Book You’ve Ever Read
The Stand by Stephen King is definitely the longest book I’ve ever read. Clocking in at 1,141 pages (according to Goodreads), The Stand is a monster of a book. An unusual opinion for me, but I actually thought it could do with an abridged edition. When someone is riding a bike down a street for 20 pages, some editing is needed! Regardless, this is an incredible book and one I’d like to revisit once I’ve read some more Stephen King novels. If you’re feeling brave, you should absolutely give it a shot.
Merida
I determine my own fate
A Book Where There is No Love Story/Interest or Isn’t Needed
I just finished reading Ninefox Gambit by Yoon Ha Lee, which is just fantastic. It features a male and a female character that interact closely, but there is absolutely no romance between the two –what a concept. I do love a good romance, but it’s also so refreshing to simply have people interact without all those pesky feelings getting in the way.
Unrelated to Ninefox Gambit, but I’d love to see more books and films featuring male and female characters that are strictly friends.
Anna/Elsa
Frozen hearts
A Book in a Winter/Cold Setting
This is an easy one: The Bear and the Nightingale. This book could fall under several of these categories (fierce heroine, no love story), but what sticks out most to me is the backdrop of rural Russia in the winter. The season plays such an important role in the book and the author manages to make winter itself into a character. It’s the perfect book for a cold winter night.
Moana
How far I’ll go
A Character That Goes on a Journey
Here’s a good one: The Book of Strange New Things. It’s described as science fiction for adults, a phrase I have a LOT of issues with, but I like to think of it more like literary sci-fi. Peter, a Christian missionary, has been selected for a mission to the planet Oasis. Millions of light years away from his wife Bea, Peter is on a journey of self-discovery as well as a literal journey to another galaxy. I absolutely loved this book, and apparently it has been turned into a TV show for Amazon!
I’m so glad you loved The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (longest title ever by the way lol!)
