I’ve seen this tag floating around, but didn’t make up my mind to actually do it until I saw Shanah over at Bionic Bookworm‘s answers. It was so nice to get to know a blogger I’ve been speaking to over the past couple of months! So here are my answers to all those curious about me. I’m usually fairly private and don’t like posting photos of myself here or on my blog’s social media, but I’m chucking that out the window for this post. Get a rare glimpse at the gal behind the blog!
NAME: Justine. You’d be surprised at how often I get called ‘Justin’.
NICKNAMES: My only real nickname is my last name, which is pretty unique, but I love it. When you have a last name like mine, you don’t really get any other nicknames (I’m sure the curiosity is killing you!)
BIRTHDAY: Early June! I’m very nearly 29 years old, a fact I’m slowly coming to terms with.
STAR SIGN: Gemini. I have no idea what this means, but I’ve always been a fan of the constellation.
OCCUPATION: I’m in marketing at a huge academic publisher! I love my job. I had been trying to get into publishing unsuccessfully for years, but now I’m living the dream. I’ve worked many jobs in the past, from waiting tables to being an analyst at a real estate investment firm.
LIVING IN: I’m an American, but moved over to the UK permenantly in 2015. I’m currently living in Oxford. It’s weird to know that there are buildings older than your country just hanging about in the city.
HAIR COLOUR: I used to be reddish blonde, but since moving to the UK it has darkened a bit. It’s honestly a reddish-blondish-brown. It sounds weird, I know, but just take a look below for proof.
HAIR LENGTH: I’m trying to grow it out, it is just past my shoulders now.
EYE COLOUR: Blue!
BEST FEATURE: Probably my hair color or my eyes to be honest.
BRACES: Nope! I was a weird kid who desperately wanted braces because all my friends had them. I bet my parents were happy I never needed them though.
PIERCINGS: Only one in each ear. I used to have two in each (the result of my rebelious phase when I left for college), but those have long since closed up.
TATTOOS: None! I love them on other people but I don’t think they’re quite for me.
RIGHT OR LEFT: Right!
REAL HOLIDAY: Oooft, I can’t even remember. I’m lucky enough to have been travelling since I was a kid. One of the earliest trips I remember is going to visit my Mum’s family in England.
BEST FRIEND: I have a few very close friends from college, but I have a very tight knit group of lady friends in particular. There are four of us and one of them is getting MARRIED! I’m flying back to the States to be a bridesmaid and sob at the alter (tears of job, don’t worry) next week.
AWARD: It’s not really an award, but I was voted Sergent at Arms (raised and lowered the school’s flag every day and led the Pledge of Allegiance at school assemblies) of my fifth grade class. My campaign speech was something along the lines of ‘My name is Justine and and I should be your Sergent at Arms because I want to be the Sergent at Arms’ and then I ran crying off the stage. Hey, when it works it works.
SPORT: I played tennis for years and was pretty terrible at it. Then played water polo for a bit in high school (a seriously underrated sport — make sure to watch it during the next summer Olympics). I used to dance a little bit too, but that was a long time ago.
CONCERT: I’ve never been a big concert goer. My sister and I would traditionally go see Tab Benoit when he would come through NYC though, which was amazing.
TV SHOWS: Ho boy. I’m a pretty massive nerd. I don’t watch as much TV as I could because of all the reading I’m doing, but I’m a HUGE Star Trek fan (Deep Space Nine being the best. Best captain, best female characters, best story, best villains, best theme song). I also love Stranger Things, Mr. Robot, and a whole bunch of others that I can’t think of right now.
COLOUR: Probably purple, blue, or black. Yellow and red are my favorite colors to wear.
SONGS: I don’t listen to a lot of music these days, but I’ve been rocking the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtracks and Prince pretty hard lately.
I’m a classic rock fan to my core.
RESTAURANT: As a Los Angeles native, I think it would be wrong for me to say anything other than In-N-Out. There’s also a small chain of burger places in NYC called Bareburger that I absolutely loved.
SHOPS: I mean, Waterstones and Blackwells are pretty ace.
BOOKS: This is the worst question to ask a book lover. To name a few: Lord of the Rings by Tolkein, Persuasion by Jane Austen, North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell, Doctor Thorne by Anthony Trollope, The Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson, Hyperion by Dan Simmons and Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.
SHOES: Cute ballet flats for me!
BOOK GENRES: I’m a huge science fiction and fantasy fan, which you’ve probably figured out by the books I read and review here. I love a book that can sweep me away to another world.
FEELING: Pretty content!
SINGLE OR TAKEN: Taken. Scottish
Boyfriend Fiance and I are coming up on three years together (although some of that was spent long distance).
EATING: Nothing at the moment, which is kind of surprising.
THINKING ABOUT: My brain is all on this upcoming trip to New York. I get to see my pals again!
WATCHING: Nothing, but am planning to start watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the first time!
WEARING: PJ’s, let’s be honest. Home time=comfy time
HAVE KIDS: If by ‘kids’ you mean ‘cats’, then yes. I’m going to pretend that that’s exactly what you meant. I got Sophia in 2011 and she just reached her sixth birthday (because I’m the type of person who knows her cat’s birthday). She and I packed our bags and moved here together. Jetsetters.
Dax is our little kitten we got when Scottish Boyfriend and I moved in together. She’s an absolute cutie but a toe-biting menace. Funny story, we actually intended to get a boy kitten and planned to name him Benjamin, after the best Star Trek captain. Well, two weeks after we brought him home, we realised that Benjamin was actually a girl. So we named her Dax instead, which if you know your Star Trek you’ll realise is VERY funny.
WANT TO TRAVEL: Yeah! Living in the US meant that flights anywhere outside the country were so long. Now we could technically, say, go to Italy, for a long weekend. How crazy is that? Might as well take advantage!
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF: I do! I have had some difficult times, but my life has really gotten on track over the past four years or so. I’ve got a career I love, am a full-time adult, and doing things that make me happy 🙂
That’s it for me! I don’t really like to tag people — it feels like I’m putting pressure on them — but if you end up doing this tag, send me a link! I’d love to get to know all of you a little bit better.
